- [Faculty] Professor Yoon Yong-ah, Independent Feature Film Released in the US
- Professor Yoon Yong-ah, Independent Feature Film Released in the US - A work of art that took 30 years to produce has been restored using AI technology and has become a hot topic Professor Yong-Ah Yoon's independent feature film 'In the Land of the Blind' from the Department of Acting is garnering attention as it opens in the United States. This film, which Professor Yoon began producing while attending UCLA's Graduate School of Film in 1997, is a drama set in Los Angeles in 1988 that depicts a journey of a Korean-American man searching for his identity amid suspicions that his child may not be his biological child. Peter Marty, editor-in-chief of Screen Anarchy, an American film media outlet, praised the film, saying, “It develops the narrative through small, everyday moments, gradually gaining power, and eventually reaching a surprising conclusion.” In particular, this film is drawing attention for using AI technology to restore the video to address the time difference in the shooting time due to the long production period of 30 years. Various technical production teams worked together to enhance the perfection with a modern sensibility while preserving the original intention of the film. Filmed in the 90s, 'In the Land of the Blind' is available for viewing on various online platforms, including Asian American Movies, along with its US release. Professor Yoon Yong-ah graduated from New York University’s Department of Film and UCLA’s Graduate School of Film, and has been actively working as an educator while studying film directing and acting techniques. From 2003 to 2011, he was a professor at the Department of Film at Seoul Institute of the Arts, where he taught his students. Since then, he has been teaching film directing and acting techniques to students at the Department of Acting at Sungkyunkwan University. He is actively conducting research in the field of Korean acting and storytelling, and has published books such as ‘Storytelling that Embraces Science’, ‘Theory and Reality of Convergence Art II’, and ‘Scripter and Image Continuity’. He was also awarded the Sungkyunkwan University Teaching Award in recognition of his educational contributions and research achievements, and is also contributing to film education and cultural expansion as an executive committee member of the Anyang International Youth Film Festival. ※ Trailer link address: https://www.asianamericanmovies.com/lotb ※ Movie review link address: https://iii.ad/6de39f
