The course, an advanced flat pattern making class for women’s wear, is focused on enhancing student's knowledge on garment structure and skills on shifting foundation patterns of the bodice, skirt, pants, and sleeve for complicated apparel design in various styles with details such as collars, yokes, and cowls may be designed. This class is composed of lecture, demonstration, and studio time. After completing this course, students should be comfortable developing apparel patterns for their own designed women's wear and seeing the proportion, fit, and balance and understanding of apparel quality on the whole.

This course focuses on creating outfits and fashion imagery based on conceptual themes, tailored for aspiring fashion image and visual professionals. Students will learn to style, produce, and art direct for various media, including print and online fashion magazines, ad campaigns, commercials, e-commerce, lookbooks, fashion shows, fashion films, and personal clients. Throughout the course, students will develop essential skills used by fashion stylists to find inspiration, conduct research, and address both commercial and creative briefs. By the end of the course, students will have built a styling portfolio showcasing their diverse styling projects.

FDM2084 Digital Fashion Illustration 3 6 Major Bachelor 1-4 Korean Yes
Digital Fashion Illustration trains students that can work on multiple areas, in close contact with fashion designers, product offices, and marketing offices for the processing of images and illustrations to be used in samples and catalogs, but also for the development of advertising campaigns in fashion magazines and social media. Students will explore a variety of illustration and presentation styles represented in static and time base formats. Advanced Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop skills are taught for both concept illustrations and technical drawings. In addition, familiar digital apps will be instructed to supplement the creation process. Along with illustration, motion art is instructed and composited in digital video formats. This course enables students to practice fashion figure drawing, fabric rendering, garment behaviors, and eventually to create their own creative digital fashion portfolio.

Through lectures and film viewings, readings, discussions, team projects, and individual research, students explore fashion as a crucial aspect of culture with an emphasis on how the contemporary fashion system evolved from its roots in Parisian couture to become a global phenomenon. The course will study how fashion can help us understand the ways in which tradition and innovation, creativity and technology, localism and globalization, identity and diversity, power and body, are elaborated and interpreted in contemporary society, and in relation to a globalized world.

The course combines lectures, case studies, discussions, and hands-on project-based learning (PBL) to engage students actively. This course is a practical class focused on creating accessories such as bags and scarves, aiming to design and produce items using various expression techniques, including quilting, padding, draping, tucking, layering, and hand & bead embroidery. Students will learn the functional and aesthetic aspects of accessories through hands-on practice with magnetic closures, zipper details, and mixed media techniques. Additionally, they will work with pattern making, fabric selection, and sewing techniques to develop various types of bags, such as eco bags, tote bags, and pouches, as well as scarves in different design forms. The course aims to foster both creativity and technical proficiency in the design process. Through practical work, students will conceptualize their own unique designs as individual projects and enhance their design skills through feedback. The completed works will be showcased in an exhibition.

A study of the history of Korean costume includes Korean costume, ornament and relation with Korean art and aesthetics. Major topics in Korean costume history from ancient Kokuryo, Baikje, Shilla and Koryo to Chosun Dynasty.
