Cho Sung-min, Alumnus of the Department of Dance, Receives the Korea Arts & Culture Merit Award from the Federation of Artistic & Cultural Organizations of Korea
Cho Sung-min, director of the Korea Dance Association and an alumna of the Department of Dance, has been honored with the Korea Arts & Culture Merit Award by the Federation of Artistic & Cultural Organizations of Korea (FACOK). FACOK, the nation’s representative federation of arts organizations, annually recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to Korean dance, traditional arts, and cultural development.
As a certified holder of Cheoyongmu, a National Intangible Cultural Heritage, Cho has contributed to the contemporary expansion of Korean dance through her traditional-based creative choreography, artistic direction for large-scale performances such as the National Sports Festival and the Youth Olympic Games, and sustained work in dance education and academic research. FACOK highlighted her creative philosophy, expressed as “Dance as Humanities,” which emphasizes emotional expression and communication through the body, as a key factor in selecting her for this award.
